Why Steve went out on his own
For years he worked for other contractors. Then he built a company that runs the other way.

To anyone deciding who to let into their house,
Steve Murphy spent most of his 20 years in the trade working for other companies. In his words he was “working for guys that lacked communication.”
Six years ago he started Modern Remodeling to run jobs the other way. The standard he set fits in one line: “Better communication and will make sure the job is done right.”
In practice that means a few plain things. You deal with Steve. The job is written down before it starts. If the house hides something, like rot behind a tub surround or old wiring in a wall, you hear about it before the plan changes, along with what it means for the work. The site is kept clean, and you are told what is happening next.
The work itself covers full remodels, kitchen rebuilds, decks, roofing and custom tile, along with additions, custom homes and commercial build-outs. Steve holds an unrestricted Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License, and the company is licensed and insured.

P.S. From a client whose job turned up water damage halfway through: Even with unexpected issues related to water damage that required additional work, the team continued to communicate well, were responsive with information on changes needed, and the project was completed successfully and to our satisfaction.
How the job runs
Every work follows the same order every time, so you always know which part of the job you are in.
- First
Steve comes out and sees it in person. Photos help, but the walls, the floor and the way the room is used tell him more.
- Then
You get a written scope and a price. It says what is included, what is not, and what could change the plan once things are opened up.
- During
While the work runs you deal with one person. You get updates as each stage finishes, and anything that changes the plan is explained first and agreed with you.
- Last
The last visit is a walkthrough, punch list in hand. The job is done when the details are done, not when the crew wants to leave.
